fluxter -w upon startup

I can't seem to get fluxter to startup in the slit together with my
other dockapps, ie.
fluxter -w & 
in ~/.fluxbox/startup (inserted before: exec /usr/bin/fluxbox)
is ineffective, and if I log output to a file it shows:-
Cannot connect to window manager

Of course, there is no problem manually launching fluxter from the
desktop after startup.

Anyone got an elegant way to launch it upon startup? (At the moment I'm
thinking of writing a script with a sleep in it)

P.S. If it is relevant, I am using kdm on ubuntu to start fluxbox with
the startfluxbox script.
