Extra (logitech) mouse buttons as modifiers

Hi all.

I've got a Logitech MX510 mouse that has a total of 10 buttons
(including scroll up/down).

I have disabled SmartScroll/Cruise Control and have mapped the buttons
"correctly" using xmodmap.

xmodmap -pp returns:

     Physical Button
      Button Code
         1 1
         2 3
         3 2
         4 4
         5 5
         6 10
         7 11
         8 6
         9 7
        10 9
        11 8

Now I have buttons 4 and 5 scrolling, 6 and 7 working with back/forward
in Firefox etc but buttons 8 and 9 (10 doesn't seem to work) don't do
anything as yet. xev shows them as "button 8" and "button 9".

Using a program called imwheel (http://imwheel.sourceforge.net/) I am
able to map them to key presses etc and while it will work for some
keys, setting the buttons to generate a modifier such as Alt_L doesn't
allow me to move my windows by holding down the button and moving the
mouse (as it should because holding ALT and moving the mouse in fluxbox
moves windows).

Any idea as to the best way about doing this is. I figure I might be
able to "inject" the key press at a lower level perhaps so that fluxbox
doesn't know any better (though I thought that's what imwheel did) or I
could modify fluxbox to make it place nice, or something else - not sure
what's the best thing.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Todd Harbour
