In actual fact I made (yet another) typo, and the above should read background: pixmap background.pixmap: ~/.fluxbox/styles/[theme]/pixmaps/[image].jpg If you regularly change your background to something other than in the theme I guess you could leave out that section in the config and instead and an entry to ~/.fluxbox/startup to run fbsetbg upon starting. For example in my ~/.fluxbox/keys I have the following entry... # Random Exploding Dog desktop (http://www.explodingdog.com/) Mod4 r :ExecCommand fbsetbg -R "~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/explodingdog/" which sets a random picture from the directory as the background when I press the windoze key + r. You could put the following in ~/.fluxbox/startup to set the back ground... fbestbg /[path]/[to]/[your]/[picture]/jpg & and that would (probably) set the background. But at the end of the day whether you edit the theme.cfg or the startup file is of little difference, since your still editing the file.
