fluxbox participated in gsoc2011 (see http://fluxbox.org/news/ ). 2
students worked on 2 projects:

* luafication of the config-files (http://git.fluxbox.org/fluxbox_pavel.git/ )
* compositor (http://git.fluxbox.org/fluxbox_gediminas.git/)

the infamous paul tagliamonte with his 733t uber-ubuntu-skillz setup 3
nightly-builds:

* fluxbox.git (HEAD, aka "the nightly")
* one for the luafication
* one for the compositor

the compositor is designed to be a companion binary, for a variety of
reasons. one of them is to allow the users to test the stuff without
having to exchange their currently running fluxbox binary.

if you install the whole fbcompose ppa-package, you will actually
replace the currently installed version of fluxbox (except you put
that into a quite bizare place such as
/hidden/cave/for/dragons/fluxbox). if you do not want that but play
around with the compositor:

    # git clone git://http://git.fluxbox.org/fluxbox_gediminas.git
    # cd fluxbox_gediminas.git
    # ./autogen.sh
    # ./configure
    # make

and then launch the binary 'fbcompose' in 'utils/fbcompose/'. if you
have any problems with that piece of software: join us in #fluxbox and
talk directly to Gediminas (nick: CopyOfNewFolder).

cheers,
mathias
