You don't need X forwarding, but to "export DISPLAY=:0" - likewise from
another TTY login.
Before restarting fluxbox run
   xdotool key "XF86LogGrabInfo"
which will print pending grabs to your Xorg log - notably whether
fluxbox holds an active grab anywhere.
If so, file a bug and attach your ~/.fluxbox/init and ~/.fluxbox/keys
there.
