While many of them have a --replace option, it doesn't go the other way: actively handing over to another WM. Or at least I haven't seen one. It might be possible to simply "killall other-wm; exec fluxbox" in a shell, but - at least in my scenario - this won't work because the window manager "carries" the whole Xorg session, i.e. killing it means I'm logging out, back to command line. Personally I'm not all that interested in this sort of hopping; the whole point of a WM (and how the whole session is set up) is to provide a particular workflow, why should I want to interrupt that. I do know however of one person who was playing with this, and created a installable/live image:=C2=A0https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?pid=3D110550#p11055= 0 HTH > =C2=A0 Any help for > me on this would be appreciated! >=20 > --- > Scotty "DeepGeek" Fitzgerald >=20 >=20 > _______________________________________________ > Fluxbox-users mailing list > [email protected] > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fluxbox-users --=-y4yIrEo7+87uA9TmTIn+ Content-Type: text/html; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html><head></head><body><div>On Sat, 2022-02-12 at 18:27 +0000, Scotty Fit= zgerald wrote:</div><blockquote type=3D"cite" style=3D"margin:0 0 0 .8ex; b= order-left:2px #729fcf solid;padding-left:1ex"><div><br></div><div>I've not= iced over the years that some</div><div>window managers have a command-line= option called "--replace" to allow<br></div><div>them to take over from an= other window manager, but fluxbox isn't one of<br></div><div>them. <b= r></div><div><br></div><div>I was wondering if anybody knew of other window= managers that can give<br></div><div>control back to fluxbox, as well as h= earing any general ideas people<br></div><div>have about window managers th= at work well with fluxbox.</div></blockquote><div><br></div><div style=3D"c= aret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Cantarell; font= -size: 15.134100914001465px; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal;= font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: st= art; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: a= uto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4); -w= ebkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none;">While many of them ha= ve a --replace option, it doesn't go the other way: actively handing over t= o another WM.
