I think further on in the thread, or in another thread I said (or was 
told) that the solution is to bandon fvmm 2.x and move to fvwn 3.x (which 
is in the ubuntu repositories ... I have fvwm3 1.0.6a [not the latest but 
what was in the repo at the beginning of the year), and autoraise works.
