Problem with Java applications when using Java-1.7.

I have an unusual problem. Two very important Java applications run normally when using Java-1.6. However, when attempting to use these applications with Java-1.7, the control keys such as ctrl-o or ctrl-s do not function. The problem appears to be associated with IceWM since the bad behavior disappears if I use another window-manager (FluxBox). Suggestions?
