I'd try running other x apps in your environment via xtrace(1) to
confirm whether the event stream occurs elsewhere, too.

Ie, run:

  :; xtrace firefox
  :; xtrace emacs

etc.

I do not see such event streams when I run any of the apps which I most
often use.  OTOH, gvim, which flashes the cursor by default,  generates
a set of events every time the cursor toggles.

Attaching strace(8) to the icewm process also might narrow things down,
but DO NOT run the strace in an X term emulator on the same $DISPLAY
which the icewm manages.  Run it on the text console or in an ssh(1)
session from some other box.
