I'm not "cool" enough to do BLFS or even Gentoo. I can reroll a Debian package with debuild and I can fiddle with the patches in it, but that's as far as I will go. On reading the discussion here: the question of Marko's imprimatur might be solved with a fork. But one really needs a developer who understands the entire code base to fork. There are things I like about icewm even now that CPU/RAM is no longer anissue on my Linux workstation (my original reason for using it). I use it on a system which is mainly the media/play/office station for my wife and two children. I want a locked down environment with easy menus and nothing extra, one that can not be broken by an occasional drag/drop etc, but where I can change the menus as a matter of minutes and also see CPU and network traffic at a glance (often over the shoulder as I'm asked to look at an issue). IceWM is unequaled in this situation. I really really don't want to go off it and spend the time to patch together a similar lockdown based on fluxbox, with separate kludges for menus and tray etc. There already is a ready set of kludges calld LXDE but I am not sure it can be locked down - most DEs see flexibility as a bonus... For the same reason, IceWM seems to be perfect for a corporate "drone" environment. Its low resource requirements also fit a virtualized desktop provisioning system.
