Ion3 does not start

When I start Ion3 I get the following error:

 >> /usr/local/lib/ion3/lc/ioncore_ext.lc: bad header in precompiled chunk
 >> Unable to find 'ioncore_ext' on search path.
 >> Refusing to start due to encountered errors.

I have tried everything I can think of, from recompiling lua, to using 
old versions of Ion3, etc...

I am running Fedora 8 x86_64.
