A few more ideas that have occasionally popped up:

  * Help screen. There was some discussion about it on this list
    a year ago [1].

  * Archy/Enso/etc. style input support, where you press down a modifier
    and start typing a command. AFAIK there's been some work on this
    by someone, but it's unfinished.

  * Better support for the few applicable EWMH hints. One might e.g.
    be able to imperfectly detect a panel from the struts properties,
    and use it as the "status display" automatically, if one doesn't
    already exist; see [2] for the present manual method.

  * One could also look into lifting the "one status display" limitation.
    (It's not necessarily entirely trivial, because of the tiling layout
    adaptation algorithms.)
