Can it even be disabled? In that case, I suggest adding that support.
The lack of a monotonic clock (or alternatively an unlimited number of
timers) in the original unix/POSIX, is a fundamental design flaw.

If there's no monotonic clock, in theory adjustment of the system clock
(e.g. by NTP) could mess timings, esp. if your hardware is fucked up.
But typically the adjustment shouldn't be so frequent as to cause
100% cpu use.
