I think the Macintosh interface does menus/pop-up menus right by 
demonstrating that the two methods are not mutually exclusive: if you 
click and hold, the menu appears; you make your selection by releasing 
over an item, or if you change your mind you release away form the menu 
and it disappears (like in Ion). But if you click and release, the menu 
stays open and you either click on an item to select it, or you click 
away from the menu to dismiss it (like most modern menus).

Anyway, I would echo Robin's request, mostly because the 
click-once-to-display method is much easier when using a stylus on a 
tablet. I plan to compile a list of features that would make Ion easier 
to use on a tablet pc which I'll post to the ion3+ wishlist thread.
