`xprop -root` doesn't change in any way.

I can't use xprop for feh when the error happens, as feh doesn't
create a window in that case, but xpropping a successful invocation of
feh reveals this noteworthy line:

_MOTIF_WM_HINTS(_MOTIF_WM_HINTS) = 0x2, 0xb75bb890, 0x0, 0xb75ba000, 0xb75c4e04
