I have same problems with displaying some UTF-8 characters in my ratpoison bar (accent for example). I have these issues when I'm using for example --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- ratpoison -c "echo ééèèààà" --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- as well when I'm entering manually those characters directly in my ratpoisonbar. I have to add that the xftfont I use for ratpoison have fullsupport for UTF-8.
