Definitely, yes I install all the code I want to study in there.  Right now I hav the latest sox (sound exchange), Dillo and sawfish in there

the librep configure was something like this

./autogen.sh --enable-debugging --prefix=/home/sam/ --mandir=/home/sam/share/man/ --infodir=/home/sam/share/info/ ; make -j10;
