In my stumpwm I use floating windows, which still hang if I use ediff on a floating emacs. Perhaps this is to be expected. I will just have to remember to either flatten the floats or use emacs in a terminal. It's a solution, which is more than I had before - thanks to your suggestion. Best Wishes, Colin.
