The wince-lib stuff that Rainer created still relies on the
Microsoft toolchain, which is all free.  I suppose you can
go fully with gcc if you want, but celib and other bits are
fully operational with the MS CE compiler.  At this point it
all just works, so why would you think people have given it
up?

The choice there is slim from what I've seen, and the dev
environments not as standard (use gcc, but whether you have
X11 or a special library differs).

It just works ... with each new CE rev, it could be improved.
I posted patches along those lines at some points.  Each new
CE rev allows a little more to be done direct in the OS, but
it does not invalidate the existing code.
