   I think "Building powerful platforms using platform builder" will be a good choice for kernal development.

    It depends on what you are planning to conecntrate
on. If you are 
planning to work on the application side then its a
pretty decent book. 
This  book is not suitable for WinCE Platform
development ( i.e kernel 
development )
