Problems with memory allocation

Hi,
 
I am having a weird problem. I have one pocket with 128 MB of memory.
Running my program (it occupies a lot of memory due to the size of the
database), but having still 29 MB memory free for applications, when trying
to allocate 2 MB it is giving error of out of memory.
 
To test, I made another program, to only allocate memory.  Leaving the
program above running, with this program I could allocate a block of up to
21.5 MB.
 
However I could not allocate 2 MB in the original application.  Somebody has
some idea of what is the problem?
