Determine location of textbox changes

Hi,

I need to know the character position in a textbox that a key was pressed.

For example:  I have the following in a textbox:
test

And the user clicks between the 'e' and 's' and types a 'o'.   At that point I would like to know that the 3rd  charter was the one that was typed.

Also, if the user is not in character insert mode (overwrite mode) and they replace the letter 'e' with 'e', I would like to know that the 2nd character was pressed.
