Status on synchronous call

Hi,
I have a console application and one part of it is a long running process
that retrieves source code from subversion.

I'm using a 3rd party library for the subversion access and the call is made
in a synchronous fashion.

I cannot change this behavior, but what I do want to do is somehow give feed
back to the user by outputting something to the console every 'x' seconds,

I want to somehow check the status of the synchronous call by using
callbacks or something.

Is this possible?
