I am talking about thousands of devices. I get all that data through a
SOAP-base interface. Time is of essence too. We need to process the whole
batch of data in less than 30 seconds. I am not sure if I can query the
registry of all those remote machines, but I am pretty sure it won't be
practical.

Can your app. query the registry on the remote machine? The info is stored
