I'm getting a bit more information. Apparently, when the batch job dies,
I'm getting the following error in the Application Event Log from the
.NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting:

When I click the link in the Event Viewer, it goes to the MS Help and
Support Center and tells me:

There is no additional information about this issue in the Error and
Event Log Messages or Knowledge Base databases at this time. You can use
the links in the Support area to determine whether any additional
information might be available elsewhere. 

Does anyone have any idea what the above error messsage means?
