https ajax call from an http loaded page

one of my developers is telling me this is not possible and that they are
getting errs.  I have not yet had time to test myself, but can anyone
validate this?  If I have an http page that loads different modules
dynamically, and on some of them we want to send ajax calls over https and
others over http.  I was told on the https calls (from an http page) that
they keep getting some err like "data necessary to complete this operation
is not yet available".  Can anyone shed some light here? Thanks.
