Sorry, Phil.

An SBC - single board computer.  It's a small computer - typically running
an embedded OS (mine is running WinXP embedded) that often acts as the
'brains' of a larger system.  And by system, I mean a larger 'machine' like
a medical diagnostic machine or a CNC machine, etc.

I am *pretty* sure that these devices would normally have an IP address of
192.168.1.0.  You can change then in much the same way you'd change your own
machine.  However, the systems I am interacting with have no user interface.
It would be nice to be able to change their IP addresses from my remote
system in an easy way.  It would also be nice to somehow determine what the
IP address of a machine is by knowing, perhaps, it's name but all this
through some sort of polling over an Ethernet connection.

I have a need to be able to assign an IP address to an SBC that resides
inside a machine through an application running on another machine.  I
understand the security issues that might be associated with such a request
- however, this is a legitimate need.  I am not even sure what topics might
be useful to look at for this task.  Any ideas, please?
