If my manager came to me with a test after 2 months I would probably leave
or question why they hired me in the first place. Books are books, the best
way to learn is to give them something to work on (not a practice project
either, something meaningful to their job, to the company) and let them
teach themselves. If they can't, replace them.

Yes, I am being harsh, but I honestly cannot understand holding someone's
hand for 2 months and then giving a 'how are we doing here test'.
Programming is one of those things where you get it or you don't. More self
study is not going to help; get them in front of some real code and let them
figure it out, with your domain guidance of course.

It is remedial.. and I expect one person to do well. And one person not
to do well at all. To be a little fair, outside of the programming
responsibilities, they are also having to learn how to support our
stores - and that takes a bit of time as well.

Not being sarcastic, but after 2 months of full time pay (I assume) a
test
seems a bit remedial to me. These developers should be ready to throw
down
the books and dive it. It's not college\school anymore.

I have two brand new developers that have been working for two months
now. Some of that has been self study. I wanted to come up with a very
basic Winform type test to see how they are doing. Some of the
questions are below. I would appreciate it if you had suggestions for
some other very basic questions. Thanks.

Stacey

1. What control would you use if you wanted to display static
information on a screen to a user?

2. What control would you use if you wanted to display information
to a user that the user could possibly type over?

3. On most controls, including the two in the previous questions
- what property do you set that controls the string displayed?

4. What event is fired when the users presses a button?

5. What main control holds the other GUI controls that makes the
screen that is displayed to your user in a program?

6. What is this called? (checkbox image)

7. What is this called? (radion button image)
