Consulting

Hi everyone,

I'd be interested in knowing who here does software development wearing a
"consultant" hat. Specifically:
- Do you "source" your own work?
- Have you ever won work from guru.com, rentacoder.com, or other "freelance"
sites?
- Have you worked remotely, ie/in another country, or where meeting with the
client is irregular, at best?
- Can you support your financial needs, if you don't work as an employee?
- Do you bid/compete for projects that you write code for
- If you win the project, do you write the code yourself?
- Do you work on the client premises, and if not, can you talk about the
subtleties of working remotely? Do you have a reputation that preceeds you
(in a good way)? Do you ever work in projects where your reputation is
instantly a strong intagible asset?
- Do you insist on Time & Materials projects, or are you involved in fixed
price development? Have you been successful in fixed price projects?
- Do you "schmooze" and do you have an elevator pitch that you use when
people ask you what you do?
- Do you get repeat business from the same client?
