1.5.0_12 has been very solid for me (windows 32 bit).  In my experience it's jvm crash bugs that you want to avoid, e.g., to assess your risk exposure, go here and search for SEGV http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/ReleaseNotes.html
