You do realize that it is possible, in many e-mail readers, to mark a
whole set of messages (often using the "shift-click" gesture), and then
  select "mark as read" or similar (often using the context menu
available by "right-clicking" the mouse), thus not having to actually
read them?

Just wanted to mention it.

Those ramblings are often by "non-advanced" folks. I wondered what these
"advanced" types would say.

Okay. I realize that The Advanced Java List is so chock-full of
interesting discussions as it is, so one better not come here with any
deemed-off-topic messages..
