Re: Performance degradation over time

There are couple of things which I think can lead to this problem.

1. Application is loading to much of data in the application context
which gets cleared only when you restart the server.

2. There are many static objects in the application and that is eating
up memory.

3.Memory lick -  Objects are not getting garbage collected. Check that
you are using local variables and not much of instance variable.

4. There are some standard java performance techniques like using
stringbuffer instead of string concatenation.

Use some java profiler to monitor memory usage.

Hi All

We are seeing performance degrade over a 24 hr period and then we see
great performance on re-start of the VM. What information should I
gather to even start looking into this problem? Has anyone seen this
behavior and provide me pointers into what I need to look at. We are
always running with a memory footprint of 500MB and hence I would doubt
if it is anything related to GC.=20

Any help would be great.
