Thanks, runtime.exec is indeed the other option.
to be honest I tried to avoid this, as within the java program you
simply don't know what the default browser is. But as said the browser interface is
not standardized, so COM is out of the question.

I am still interrest to know how to get CLSID for the default .html file extension out
of the registry.
