My vote goes for 1.4 or 1.4.2 - as currently most of the J2EE stuff is
still running 1.4+ JVMs.

Btw, I have decided to definitely do my thesis project on Jawin, and I
will be starting my research very shortly. Which means that if anyone has
any outstanding issues or big ideas about the direction in which to take
Jawin, I will gladly add them to my project plan. Overall, my idea for the
thesis would be to reduce the learning curve for using Jawin and possibly
add a few extra things here and there to further reduce the hoops that a
developer has to go through in order to use native functionality. I am
also thinking about possibly implementing an easier way to call functions
from the win32 api, by possibly providing wrappers around most important
data structures, etc.
