NJawin was - Advertising on Jawin mailing list

Hi Anil,

I find it admirable that you have leapt to Vitally's defence and am amused
at the number of emails my flame has generated.

I know you are new to the jawin newsgroup and would dearly love to clarify
the situation.

I have sent many such emails over the past few years (yes years) regarding
the relationship between njawin and jawin and have always been a bit miffed
that Vitally always suggests that the closed source njawin is better than
jawin (using the jawin mailing list of course) and answers questions like
'how do I do x?' with, use njawin, its better blah blah.

Unfortunately, none of these improvements have been made available to jawin
so the spirit of open source software was has not been present.

The njawin product is the jawin product from CVS several years back and
heavily enhanced by Vitally and others in a closed source environment.

My previous email reflected my frustration with the situation in that
Vitally was unwilling (or unable for commercial reasons) to submit these
improvements for the benefit of jawin itself but was always happy to use our
time and resources to better the njawin product.

Thus my simple request that these commercial advertising type emails cease
to be posted on our mailing list.

The fact that the njawin product is going to be removed from download has
nothing to do with my flame of late last week I am sure.  Vitally's company
does integration, it was only a matter of time until there were commercial
releases.

I am unaware of any refusal to allow Vitally to contribute to the project,
although this was before my time.  Perhaps the damage had already been done?
  I would like to hear more about the history of this 'brutal refusal' as
any of the team knows we are more than willing to help out project users and
team members within the constraints of our own commercial responsibilities.

Vitally crying hard done by leaves a bad taste in my mouth after having to
deal with the barrage of emails to our mailing list over the past few years
which have consisted of little more than misinformation, propaganda and (now
confirmed) commercial advertising.

Vitally, I hope your product does well, I have no hard feelings just a lot
of frustration.

Anil, I hope this clarifies the situation and hasn't darkened our team in
your eyes =]

Additionally Anil, I wrote a detailed reply to someone about using windows
sound recorder but go no response.  If I recall correctly my suggestion was
that windows sound recorder, the gui did not look com, did not have type
libraries and that there were far superior java libraries (that ship with
the standard jdk) .

Here you can see my reply on a Sunday after your first post on a Friday.
Show me a commercial software house that will answer an unpaid software
support request in the time!!
