External COM Object

Is it possible to access an external COM object running outside of the
application space?  So if a there is a COM server running -- is there a way
to interact with a currently running instance of the server instead of
initializing a new COM object via Jawin?  If this doesn't make sense please
ask and I can elaborate.  Thanks for the help!
