Hey everyone, This is just a quick heads-up to let you all know what's going on with our server situation. As many have noted, our project services (mailing lists, CVS, email, etc..) have been split up over many different servers, none of which have given us an adequate level of control, reliability, or security. Our continued mailman and CVS problems are enough to make me want to throw things, so I'm doing something about it. A FreeBSD server is on order and will be installed in the Equinix NOC sometime midweek (hopefully), at which point I'll begin the process of transitioning our project services, DNS, mail, and the like. Project contributors will be given shell accts upon request (I haven't decided if they'll be real shells or jails yet). The new server is going to be setup with redundant RAID, an older processor, and enough RAM to keep me happy. And we'll actually get a chance to lock it down correctly. All in all, it should be a big improvement over our current situation, however there will be some service interruptions and hiccups as services are migrated (sorry!). I'll send out an announcement when the mailing list is about to move. Please bear with me. -- Alex Russell [email protected] [email protected] _______________________________________________ The netWindows developers list: [email protected] http://netwindows.org/mailman/listinfo/devel_netwindows.org
