Passing domnode of tree branch element to event handler

Hi,

I would like to visually mark the currently selected branch of the tree
widget, for example, change the background color of the span element that
contains the "dispText". Would it be possible to attach a reference to the
last element that was clicked on to the tree object (or something simular),
so that the function that handles the click on the branch can do something
with ist style attribute? Or attach the reference to the "this" reference
that can be passed  by the "event" caller...
