Does IWAM_MACHINENAME have access to the Oracle client libraries? I've seen
recently where some versions of Oracle client will install on some OSs with
very limited permissions. In addition, bear in mind that your security
principal may write client trace files on various directories of the machine
under various circumstances (look for files that end in ".ora") and may
actually require write permissions in this case.
An easy test of this is to change the anonymous web user to run as you
(***only*** as a test and not on a live machine) to see if this fixes the
problem.

I have a COM object that uses OLEDB to access either an Oracle or MS Sql
database. Using a C++ testclient w/ smart pointers to my object, everything
works fine when the provider is any of the following:
SQLOLEDB.1
MSDAORA.1
OraOLEDB.Oracle.1
when i try to access the object from a .asp page via the follwoing code:
set obj = Server.CreateObject("MyObject.MyTable")
set rs = obj.myMethod(params)
with SQLOLEDB.1 it works great (of course!) but with either oracle provider
I get a pop window asking me if i want to send the error to Microsoft, the
basic message is "COM Surrogate has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
I messagebox trace my code to the following call:
ds.OpenWithServiceComponents(...);
via the .asp page, i get to the call in my code and it never comes back, I
don't even get the pleasure of an E_FAIL as a returned HRESULT. The code is
wrapped in the try/catch block and never gets a chance to "catch"
the biggest difference that i can see is that the c++ testclient is using my
security credentials where as the .asp page is entering via dllhost.exe as
IWAM_MACHINENAME.
does anyone have any insight/solution to my situation?
