Binary XML serialization

What are the possible approaches for "Binary XML serialization"? I know
of one where XML message model(like WSDL) is converted to equivalent ASN.1
for on the wire BER/DER encoding/decoding. The reason being XML is good
for message modeling (abstract syntax) whereas ASN.1 encoding like BER/DER
is good for transfer syntax.

Is there a standard in this area?
