NEWBIE question

I am entirely new to SOAP, and basically really just want to know the
following before I waste anyones time - including my own.

We are converting our app to be web compliant. It is written in VB and uses
mainly ADO for data access. My first adventure along this line of upgrade
was to consider RDS to satisfy the transfer of data from server to client,
through ADO onto the client form but this is very slow and tedious.

Therefore in a nutshell, my question is as follows: Can I make use of SOAP
to send and request data between a database on a server and a client app,
passing though ADO?

Any help or thoughts will be appreciated.
