Thanks! I finally used Dumper to get the following output on the
command line:
$VAR1 = [
bless( [
'have',
'data'
], 'string[]' ),
bless( [
'what',
'else?'
], 'string[]' )
];

When the return value is a one-dimensional array, SOAP::Lite gives you
an array reference, just as it does with input parameters. It wouldn't
surprise me if this case works much the same. I would read up on the
Data::Dumper module, which will provide you a way to see just what kind
of value you get back from the service.
