SOAP Request Status

Hello...

I have been chasing on this matter for the past 5 hours and couldn't find
anything conclusive.

This is a question about the posibility of a sender of a SOAP message to be
notified about the Request status.
All the approaches I've seen so far are involving the use of cookies sent
back to the client. Isn't there another way to do this, without closing the
connection?

I have a situation where there can be hundreds of time-consuming SOAP
requests being sent from a particular machine. Instead of queuing the
requests and poll their status with yet other SOAP messages from time to
time (how often? would be just one of the problem here) I would rather keep
the connections opened and have the Web Service return status indicators
back to me.

In WSDL 2.0, the In-Multi-Out MEP seems to be put on some kind of hold so I
am really not sure which direction should I move to.
Also, such request-status mechanism seemed to be marked as "very useful" in
several older posts so it might be that the mechanism is already in place
and I am plainly missing it.

Can anybody give any directions on this?
