beginers install problem

I have started working with SOAP and in the start itself i have cometo a
grinding halt.

I tried installing following in Windows98 and Linux9 but still no luck...

jakarta-tomcat  5.0/4.1.29/3.3
soap 2.3.1
xerces 1.4.4
jaf 1.0
javamail 1.3

jdk 1.3

I had included all the 4 jar files above in 'classpath' for both windows
and linux. From browser I get the behaviour that soap is installed and
even deploys the service (not sure whether it service is actually
deployed), but while going from command invocation through

'java org.apache.soap.server.ServiceManagerClient list'

error are dumped in both Linux and windows..

I have been on this for sometime now and i have tried various jar
versions, but still i can't even get the service listing working...

if any one could help...
