I assume it's referring to the <system.diagnostics><trace> element in the
.config file. Have a look at the TraceListener class in MSDN for more
information.

The trace listeners don't need to be declared in the .config file. I launch
DebugView from sys internals when I want to watch trace ouput
(http://www.sysinternals.com/).

Hope this helps,

Anil

P.S. I've never delved deeply into diagnostic internals - gurus out there,
please correct me if I'm wrong ;)

Subject: [Log4net-users] TraceAppender question

I'm not sure how to use the TraceAppender for log4net. In the TraceAppender
config example provided in the documentation, it states that "These messages
will be logged to any System.Diagnostics.TraceListener that is registered in
the config file."

What does this mean? Specifically, what does "that is registered in the
config file" mean?
