Now I'm wondering.. I'm running from downloaded binaries (which seem to be =
32bit). Could there be some MS magic going on where using 32 bit binary (an=
d hive) results in resolving to Wow6432Node?

I had included the hive in one of my many variations in trying to get it to=
 work (it defaults to "LocalMachine" according to the docs, so I assumed th=
at I wouldn't need to set it explicitly).

According to regedit, the path is correct: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pyth=
on\PythonCore\2.7\InstallPath. =


I've now tested this on two 64bit machines and both fail with the same erro=
r. I also tried it with a nightly build and the error message was a little =
different:

Registry Path Not Found! - key=3D'SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.7\InstallPat=
h\';hive=3D'Microsoft.Win32.RegistryHive[]';

This message concerns me a bit.. Do I somehow explicitly have to set the hi=
ve to be 64bit?

I should note that I tested on a Win32 machine.  I am not sure if the reg p=
ath is different on a Win64 system for Python.
