HURRAH! I have it working. I googled the hexadecimal number thing from below (0x80070020), and found a microsoft page saying that this can be caused by antivirus software. I turned off Comodo antivirus and voila, NUnitTests.nunit is working and all tests are green! I probably need to tinker with the antivirus settings rather than just turn the whole thing off, but at least now I know what the problem was! When not sure about any project, just remove all nunit.*.dll assemblies from the bin directories and start over. Remove any nunit references and re-create them pointing to the install you actually want to use. Provided you don't have any mixed copies of NUnit assemblies, it works equally well when installed with the msi or executed directly from a source-controlled directory - just make sure all references are to the same copy of NUnit that you will use to run the tests. The version I currently have is 2.4.1. This is controlled by source control, so I have just copied an nunit folder from our central repository and am running the gui from there. Earlier today I had downloaded 2.4.7 and was trying with that. If you think it would be better to download 2.4.7 again and remove the source controlled version then I can do so. The 2.4.1 version was downloaded by a colleague a while ago, but we haven't really been using unit tests up to now. However I have a big project starting soon so would like to try and get it sorted before then, through the source controlled version or otherwise. If not, you appear to have multiple versions of NUnit mixed on your system. Multiple installs of NUnit may co-exist provided copies of the assemblies are not left around in out of the way places. Unfortunately, Visual Studio has a habit of doing just that. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. If you are unable to load an assemby that is designed to be loaded and run independently, that's a problem we should try to solve. Only a few of the test assemblies that come with NUnit are intended to be run that way, so it's not necessarily a problem that you can't run nunit.util.dll. Were you able to run the NUnit verification tests after install? You get them by loading NUnitTests.nunit, which provides the proper config file for the individual assemblies. If you are able to run the verification tests, then you are properly installed and we need to get into the details of a particular project. Rereferencing in my project, etc. I'm using version 2.4.7, by the way. There are a few dll files in the Nunit directory which I am able to open. For example, I can open nunit.util.tests.dll, but when I run all tests on this assembly, a large handful of the tests fail with that same message "Could not load...etc...being used by another process" Can anyone please offer advice?
