and possibly checking that directory into source control - that's
a choice you have to make.

Yes, although some developers get into trouble by forgetting
which one they are running at a given moment - especially if
there are multiple versions involved.

The /in my source tree/ was the important part. Some folks run
the tests right in the tree - from the bin directories under
each project. Others make a copy in one directory, matching
the way the app is expected to be deployed. I prefer the 
latter myself.
