Yes, but ... I no longer use Ubuntu based systems and have been using 
LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) for quite some time, which is of course 
a rolling distribution that never has to be reinstalled (as other 
versions or Mint do, every 6 months - the same as Ubuntu, which is also 
based on Debian but isn't a rolling distro, as it's parent is.

Not very, but you have to install Wine and if the installation app 
stalls, use Crossover (which entails a cost but can be downloaded and 
used on a trial basis).

Where to install it can be a little tricky but I usually let it install 
to the default location, which is simple.  However - I keep the database 
(*.eco) files in a separate partition (so I can use the same file 
regardless of the operating system), which is usually formatted to 
ntfs.  So you can't have Ecco open automatically on booting because you 
have to open a file manager and mount the partition it is on (by 
selecting it and providing your password) first.   Otherwise your Ecco 
file won't open.  But that's not hard to do.

Everything I use works fine, even OLE.  Katmouse usually works too, but 
on some desktops it doesn't sometimes.  I am using Zeven / Neptune - 
(another Debian derivative from Germany w/ KDE) at the moment on a 
different computer and Katmouse always runs fine, while sometimes it 
hangs on my Gnome Shell version of LMDE Cinnamon (LMDE doesn't offer 
Gnome shell but I added direct access to the Debian Wheezy Repositories 
and unchecked Mint's Testing ones -  I need stability rather than the 
latest bells and whistles.  You can do a lot more with Linux than with 
windows).

In fact, there is is no need or reason to rely on M$ for anything and as 
far as I am concerned they are crooks and always have been, from the 
start.  (Read about CP/M or DR Dos).
