Thank you so much for your help. Your suggestion was brilliant - wish I had though of it myself. Reformatting my input file to match Ecco's output format worked.
I did a little further experimenting, however, and as it turns out, my mistake was in not including an ending time. To import a date and time field to Ecco, you must include an end time, regardless of the display format:
mm/dd/yy hh:mm hh:mm
Ecco did accept times in the 24 hour format.

I think you are not delimiting your columns the way ecco would like you to. I don't remember the exact format, but I would suggest that you create an item with an appointment date and time, then export that item (out of a notebook, can't export out of the Calendar). Open the export text file in a text editor and that will show you the format that ecco wants.
On your date and time format, I don't think ecco will take 24-hour time. It wants you to put it like this: 4:30p - but do the export to make sure of the exact form... I think I am still not remembering it quite right.
